Five KK eatery toilets fail to get star rating
June 14, 2008 –DAILY EXPRESS
Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim made this clear at a presentation ceremony for six food premise operators who received a four-star rating for toilet cleanliness, at City Hall headquarters, here, Friday.
The food premise operators that received the four-star rating were Restoran Seri Malindo, in Api-Api centre, D'Borneo Snack House (Sinsuran Complex), Burger King (Segama Complex), Ocean Seafood Village Restaurant (Api-Api Centre), Grazie Restaurante Pizzeria Cafe in Wawasan Plaza and Rainforest Caf} in Jalan Pantai.
The programme, introduced last year, is aimed at providing patrons with cleaner toilets at food premises throughout the city.
The inspections were conducted in April and May this year at various locations, like Api-Api Centre,
Some 160 food premises were involved in the programme and a total of 195 toilets were inspected.
Out of the 195 toilets, none was given five-star rating, 42 achieved three-star rating, 32 toilets were given two-star rating while 106 received only one-star. There were, however, five toilets that were not good enough to receive a star rating.
Iliyas said those who failed to receive the star rating would be issued a notice to clean up their toilets.
He added that failure to comply with the notice could result in drastic measures by the authorities, such as closing the premises.
Iliyas hoped with the close partnership it has with QRAM, cleanliness of toilets in other food premises in other parts of the city could be improved with the implementation of the programme in other areas.
The Mayor, who was accompanied by senior City Hall and QRAM officials, later walked to some of the nearby premises to inspect the toilets and award the ratings.
Among those present at the ceremony were City Hall Director-General Datuk Chua Kim Hing, Deputy Chairman of QRAM Sabah Nilakrisna James and Deputy Chairman of QRAM Damien Chai.
